Island Underground

Welcome to the Island Underground. There may be other tech artisans on Whidbey Island, but I haven't found them yet. Until then, it's an underground movement.

I have always liked to make things. There is nothing better than an idea that begs its creation. My preferred mediums are software, electronics, and steel.

Coming Soon: Ultramod4

It's time for another version. This time around, I have having it built in China at JLCPCB. I can't wait for the initial bring-up, assuming DHL will ever deliver it...

Old News

When working with Arduino boards, it doesn't take too long before you get tired of plugboards and "flying wires" and want something more professional. Pre-covid, I was putting together a class to teach complete noobs how to use Eagle to create their own low cost printed circuit boards (PCBs). The class project will be to create an Arduino shield that implements a toaster oven solder reflow controller. The resulting controller would be used to create all your future surface-mount circuit board projects. More info can be found here.

For now, this site will show off a few of the projects I have done over the last 20 years. If you see something interesting on this site, get in touch.

If there are more underground makers out there, drop me a line and tell me what you are doing. I could talk your ear off on things like:

  • PCB design and fabrication using Eagle

  • C++ for embedded systems

  • Design of switching power supplies for small computer projects

  • Analog modeling in Spice (not that I am an expert!)

  • ...details on any of the projects on this site

As always, more to come!
